The middleweights meet for the second time in Las Vegas this month – a year after they fought to a draw
Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez reveals incredible physique days out from Gennady Golovkin rematch
Gennady Golovkin has promised to “punish” Canelo Alvarez when the pair meet again next weekend.
The middleweights clash in Las Vegas on September 15, a year after they fought to a controversial draw in Sin City.
Canelo was banned for six months earlier this year when he failed a drug test, putting the rematch back until the autumn.
As a result, animosity levels between the fighters’ camps have increased.
And Golovkin said: “I don’t even want to go to that level. It just shows a lack of class, low class, lack of upbringing, lack of intelligence.
“It just shows how they behave. I’ve never said anything so low about anybody.
“I want to punish him for all the bad things him and his team have done. I want to put him down to size.”
The Kazakh’s trainer Abel Sanchez reiterated his charge’s comment.
He added: “He’s not angry. He’s got a purpose in the gym and he’s got a purpose of what he wants to do inside the ring.
“Canelo’s done some things that he feels he needs to pay for, and he’ll do that in the ring. In the gym, it’s just another day training in the gym.”
